TASK 2: Experience Design Project Proposal
Based on initial idea discussions, we are required to come up with an experience design project from a subject/topic of their choice. This can be anything from screen experience to physical space experience.
We are required to create a professional experience design proposal document that explains their project idea and how will the experience be for the user. The proposal should contain an analysis of the current experience, a comparison with similar solutions and how it can be better, sketches to visualize the experience, mock design of how the final outcome should be from the user’s perspective.
Ideation Process
To begin this task, I gathered a handful of ideas I could use for the project. These ideas for AR apps are ones that I find interesting and wish to develop.

Project Idea #1 - Travel Adventure
AR app that allows users to scan travel-themed cards to explore famous landmarks, cultural sites, and natural wonders in 3D. This gives people an interactive virtual travel experience.
Problem Statement:
People may not always have the opportunity to visit new places physically and lack engaging ways to learn about different cultures and landmarks.
Aims/Goals of the Project:
To offer a virtual travel experience through AR.
To educate users about different cultures and landmarks.
To provide an engaging and interactive way to explore the world.
Solution:
Scan travel-themed cards to explore 3D models of famous landmarks
Read interesting facts about famous landmarks around the world and experience cultural stories
Take a quiz on the content learned
Project Idea #2 - Bookstore
AR application that enhances the shopping experience in bookstores by providing interactive book previews, detailed information, and personalised recommendations.
Problem Statement:
When going to find books in a bookstore, it is often hard to locate specific titles, especially one that matches your personal preferences, and get detailed information on a book. Customers would often have to search online or ask the bookstore staff to know more about a book or look for recommendations.
Aims/Goals of the Project:
To create an interactive shopping experience using AR.
To provide detailed book previews and information.
To offer personalised book recommendations.
Solution:
Scans book covers to provide summaries, reviews, and similar book recommendations.
Enter a specific book title you wish to find in a bookstore and get shown the directions to it with store navigation
View the book's availability in the bookstore
Project Idea #3 - Art Gallery
AR app that brings famous artworks to life, allowing users to explore iconic paintings and sculptures in a virtual gallery and the context behind them.
Problem Statement:
People who love art may not have the chance to access and appreciate famous artworks due to different factors. Viewing art in the traditional way is also unengaging, making it difficult to captivate and educate audiences about famous artworks.
Aims/Goals of the Project:
To make art appreciation interactive
To help users explore details and historical context of famous artworks.
Solution:
Educational and informative content about each artwork
An interactive experience to view artworks from different angles
Accessibility features (e.g. text to speech)
Project Idea #4 - University Campus Navigation
AR application to assist students and visitors in navigating university campuses, accessing real-time information about facilities, and receiving personalized updates and notifications.
Problem Statement:
University campuses can be huge and complex. This makes it difficult for students and visitors to find their way around and access necessary information of the campus.
Aims/Goals of the Project:
To provide a navigation tool using AR.
To offer real-time updates about campus facilities and events.
To enhance the overall campus experience for students and visitors.
Solution:
Offers turn-by-turn navigation
Real-time facility updates
Easy access to campus services information.
Working Process
After receiving feedback, I decided to proceed with the third idea. Mr. Razif provided us with the structure of the proposal that we can use as a reference.
About the Product/ Service
The product is an application that uses augmented reality to assist people in viewing art. Mainly targeted at art enthusiasts, students, tourists, and anyone who wants to learn more about art. This app will bring famous artworks to life simply through your devices. Users can explore iconic artworks in a virtual gallery and view artwork from different angles. The app will also offer educational features, providing informative context behind each artwork. Special features could be to have background music and have the artwork come to life. This app will make art accessible and engaging, providing a mix of education and entertainment that brings the art world to life.

User Journey Map
I created a user journey map using MIRO and the following are the results.

I identified existing pain points from the user journey map, and proposed solutions to these problems. I then created a new user journey map is the user journey with the proposed solutions and gain points.
Visualization
I did some rough sketches of the interface design on paper. This gave me a general idea of how I wanted my design to look like before developing them digitally.
I used Adobe Illustrator to design a mockup of the design (I don't know why I didn't use Figma or Canva but oh well). I first edited some assets in Adobe Photoshop before bringing it over to Illustrator.

REFLECTION
I found this task to be quite daunting, mainly because we had to come up with an AR app idea that we would spend a lot of time developing in the future. I wanted my app to be on a topic I was interested in as well as interesting to others. I found myself constantly going back and forth between the two ideas approved by Mr. Razif. I also found Unity to be very intimidating to use, so I was aware of my limitations and I couldn't do an idea that was too difficult to develop.
Mr. Razif's feedback is incredibly important and helpful for this project, and his insights and advice had a huge impact on this project. He provided helpful feedback that highlighted areas that needed to be improved as well as provided suggestions on how to further improve on these areas. For example, he suggested turning a room into a gallery which can be learnt through tutorials online and by expanding on his lectures.
