TASK 3: Project Prototype

Once our proposal was approved, we started working on our project's prototype. The prototype will enable us to discover certain limitations that we might have not learnt about before and will have to creatively think about how to overcome the limitations to materialize their proposed ideas. The objective of this task is to test out the key functionality of our project. The output may not necessarily be a finished visually designed project.

Requirements for the final submission:
  1. Video presentation and walkthrough of your AR project prototype
  2. Explain your AR app and elaborate on what has been done and what is yet to be done.
  3. Include also your asset building or collection progress
  4. Blog link to the project post

Prototype Process in Unity
This is the prototyping process in Unity. To start I created multiple scenes, labelled them according to order and added the Canvas and EventSystem. To make the 'Start' button lead to the next scene, the 'Home' page, I used the script and applied the changetoscene function.

For the gallery, I wanted to make a scanning canvas before the users are directed to the 3D gallery. I followed the tutorial taught in class and made the blinking animation as well as fade away animation when the target is found.

I made the 3D room using the tutorial in class. I added the images and panels to simulate an art gallery. For the walls and floors, I downloaded textures and materials from the Unity Asset store and applied them to it.

The information page holds the artwork information, audio feature, zoom and pan feature, video feature and 360 view. All these buttons have the changetoscene function to switch to the appropriate scene when clicked on. There is an error with the zoom and pan feature, the page shows a static image that can zoom when interacting with it.

For the video target, I used the tutorial we learnt in class using the image target. I placed the video player on top of it with a moving animation of the artwork. When the image is scanned, it spawns a video of the same artwork with movement.

For future and final project improvements, I will clean up the user interface design, such as the home screen, as well as improve the features and functions of the app.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 10
Since there are a lot of artists, you would have to design multiple art galleries. Choose one artist and make your app about them and their artworks. You should feature 2 artworks, not just 1.

REFLECTION

This task was definitely an experience. I'm new to Unity, so it took a lot of time to figure things out and make a feature work. I definitely think I could do better if I had more experience using Unity, since most of the time I spent was trying to make something work and playing around with the app. I am very grateful for what we learned in class because it is more or less the foundation of creating this prototype. I found that when building the app to my device, it changed a lot of the aspects and proportions so everything turned out wonky and I have no idea how to fix it still.

When working on the final project, there are still a lot of things I can improve on from the prototype. It is not my best work and it feels very rough still. The app design can also be improved, especially since I'm a design student, it should look a lot better than it does now.
