REFLECTION

Experience

My experience with this module was quite a learning experience. At the start of the semester, I had absolutely no clue what Adobe Illustrator was, or why anyone would want to use such a difficult software. There were definitely a few ups and downs (more downs most of the time) along the way, however, I am glad I got the chance to learn about Illustrator and the importance of visual narrative. The lectures and tutorials provided helped me to understand the tools, shortcuts, and functions of Illustrator. The assignments were also very helpful in gaining the skills and confidence when using the software. As a result, I was quickly able to become familiar with the Adobe Illustrator workstation and am now capable of producing artwork using this software without having a breakdown halfway.

Observations

Throughout the entire module, I observed that making progress every week allows me to receive feedback on how to improve my work, what needs to be changed differently, etc. I have learned to observe that little details have a significant influence on the outcome of the design. I also observed that the use of foreground, midground, and background can positively change the look of the design, and give it more depth.

Findings

During the course of this module, I found that Adobe Illustrator can be quite challenging to use. There were so many instances when my laptop lagged and crashed, me needindg a drink every time I sat down to use it, or spending way too many hours worrying about the projects. While the semester progresses on, I found that this software has its signaficance, especially in the professional world of design. I am able to spot the differences and development of my projects from the start of the semester to the end project using Illustrator, and it is great to see the growth. I am grateful for all the tutorials and advice provided by my lecturers.
